About VA SEA
Educators from the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERRVA) and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science's (VIMS) Marine Advisory Program created the Virginia Scientists and Educators Alliance (VA SEA). VA SEA is a network of graduate students, teachers, and informal educators aimed at transferring scientific research into usable lesson plans.
In 2015-2017, 15 graduate students from VIMS, UVA, and ODU created middle and high school lesson plans based on their current research. All lesson plans were vetted by classroom teachers, and an open house was held to share the new lesson plans. To see the available lesson plans, go to:
A second round of VA SEA lesson plans have been authored and will be shared at our 2019 VA SEA Lesson Plan Expo at VIMS on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 5-8 pm. Registration for the Expo is encouraged, but walk-ins will be welcomed.
