Dead Zone Forecasts
The computer modeling community at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) is at the forefront of efforts to predict the extent, duration, and severity of low-oxygen dead zones in the Chesapeake Bay. Dead zones are a key stressor of marine ecosystems and rank with over-fishing, habitat loss, and harmful algal blooms as global environmental problems.
