The Green Team

The Green Team is an organization composed of students, faculty, and staff who gather to build community around environmentally-conscious action at the Batten School & VIMS. The Green Team organizes events open to the campus and wider community, including undergraduates at William & Mary. Campus-wide events have included beach cleanups, film screenings, upcycling craft events, holiday wrapping supply swaps, clothing swaps, and much more. The Green Team has also worked with facilities management and the Committee on Sustainability to apply for project funding from the W&M Green Fee Fund. Projects supported by the Green Fee have included:

  • Improving recycling signage and access on the VIMS campus
  • Replacing HID exterior lights with energy-efficient LED lights
  • Infrastructure to decrease water usage on VIMS campus
  • Solar Powered Charging Station on VIMS Campus
  • Installation of bird safety film on building exteriors
  • Establishment of the Ken Borkey Native Plant and Pollinator Garden
  • Establishment of a food and research waste composting program at VIMS
