Summary

Lisa Ayers Lawrence is the Marine Education Program Leader for Virginia Institute of Marine Science Marine Advisory Program (VMAP).  Lisa received her Master’s degree in fisheries science at the College of William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in 1996. While studying at VIMS, she had a graduate assistantship with the Education Coordinator at the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve Education located at VIMS and became hooked on environmental education. Shortly after finishing her Master’s, she started her career in education as a marine education specialist for VMAP.  In 2012, Lisa became the Marine Education Program Leader. Her education team specializes in developing marine-related resources for K-12 classrooms, conducting professional development programs with a focus on outdoor investigations for K-12 teachers, and training graduate students in science communication and science education. Lisa also specializes in facilitating broader impacts at VIMS, assisting researchers with their efforts to have to create societal impacts from their research.
