Oyster Crop Mortality Reports
In 2025, C-SALT launched a national weekly survey of commercial oyster growers to assess their level of concern about mortality in their oyster crops, collaborating with Drs. Adriane Michaelis and Ryan Carnegie.
Spurred by reports of sudden unusual mortalities, we conduct this weekly survey where growers are asked to rate their level of concern with a simple ‘stop light’ gauge: green means nothing of concern or out of the ordinary, yellow indicates some level of concern has been triggered, and red reports signify that the grower is very concerned and seeing high levels of mortality. This effort helps our understanding of where and when growers are concerned about crop mortalities, as we seek to understand the causes.
If you are a commercial oyster grower interested in participating, you can sign up here and you'll get a weekly text with a simple stop light survey to complete each Thursday during the growing season. You can always withdraw. We keep identities confidential and only report for any area that has at least 3 responses.
