Construction Update

 

Facilities Management Building

The project is generally described as a new 15,000 square-foot LEED-certified building to house Facilities Management, the Safety and Environmental office, Shipping/Receiving, and Procurement. The new facility will house administrative staff in the central portion of the building with Carpentry, Grounds, Housekeeping, Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing, Receiving, and Vehicle Maintenance shops connected at the sides. Shipping/Receiving and Procurement will be located at one end of the building with direct access for the campus. The Project will also construct a facilities courtyard area with material storage and an adjacent paved parking lot with site lighting. The project will be sited in accordance with VIMS’ comprehensive Master Plan on approximately 3 acres northwest of Watermen’s Hall, between Greate Road and the Research Storage Facility. Construction period is fall 2017 through summer 2018.

Oyster Hatchery

The project is generally described as a new 22,000 square-foot building for the VIMS Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding Technology Center (ABC). The current ABC facilities (Oyster Hatchery/Nursery and water intake and discharge) are located in the VIMS Boat Basin. The proposed one-story facility will be sited in accordance with the VIMS comprehensive Master Plan on +/- 1.0 acre located on the site of the current Facilities Management buildings and miscellaneous aquatic facilities. Demolition of the existing Facilities Management buildings and miscellaneous aquatic facilities are part of this project. Design is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2017, construction to begin in the summer of 2018, and occupancy in the summer of 2019.
