The Assistant Director of Financial Compliance serves as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Director of Financial Compliance, supporting the financial integrity, compliance posture, and operational excellence of VIMS/Batten School. This position plays a key role in ensuring that core financial compliance and regulatory functions are implemented effectively across a diverse research and funding environment that includes federal, state, and private sponsors.

Valerie Woodard has been with the College of William & Mary and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in higher education administrative positions since 2006.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Woodard served as the Program Service Coordinator for the Office of Finance at VIMS (2006-2015) and as the administrative assistant to the Vice President of Finance and Administration/Comptroller (1999-2006) for Christopher Newport University.  Ms. Woodard has over 20 years of service in higher education and earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Averett University in 2010.
