IVARS: Inter-annual Variability in the Ross Sea

IVARS (for Interannual Variability in the Ross Sea) is aIVARS Logo 5-year project to learn more about year-to-year changes in the biology, physics, and chemistry of Antarctica's Ross Sea. The project, which took place between 2001 and 2006, was headed by VIMS researcher Dr. Walker Smith.

Funding for the IVARS project came from the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs. This highly competitive program awards approximately 110 research grants each year to U.S. scientists for study in the Arctic and Antarctic.
