Housing

Finding housing in Gloucester can be a little bit tricky. In addition to asking current students and your advisor to forward any listings that come through the VIMS listservs, the following resources might be useful as well:

VIMS Housing Board - An internal board with local listing from the VIMS Community

Zillow - Gloucester County - The Zillow Gloucester County apartment page with about 30 listings with fair rental price estimates.

ApartmentList - Gloucester County - Gloucester County listings for the national apartment search site.

Trulia - Gloucester County - The Trulia Gloucester County apartment page with in-depth neighborhood information.

Hotpads - Gloucester County - The Hotpads Gloucester County apartment page with in-depth photos, information and unique features such as the street view of each property.

If you are comfortable with a 20-minute or more daily commute, housing opportunities in Williamsburg and Newport News are much more plentiful. Just remember that you will have to pay the Coleman Bridge toll (85 cents with an EZPass Smart Tag) each time you come to campus.

If you are trying to determine how much rent you can afford, you can try out this Rent Calculator Tool for an estimate. For more information, see this article.

Living

InMyAreaWhen you call cable and internet companies to set up home services, the person that answers the phone is generally a sales agent and they may or may not try and talk you into a contract or feature that is not right for you.  That is where InMyArea comes in.  Through this site, students can search for ALL the providers in their area and compare exactly what companies, speeds, and prices are available.  Input your Zip Code and see what is available.
