Gloucester Point Campus Map

William & Mary's Batten School & VIMS Gloucester Point campus is divided into two main areas: Upper Campus, which sits south of US Route 17 and contains most academic and administrative buildings, and the Boat Basin, located along the York River shoreline below Coleman Bridge.

Visiting the Gloucester Point Campus

Visitor Parking

Three visitor parking lots are available on Upper Campus:

  • P1 — Short-term parking, located near Watermen's Hall
  • P2 — Clayton Lot, available for visitor parking unless marked for event parking
  • P3 — Triangle Lot, available for visitor parking

All visitors should first go to the Dean & Director's Office in Watermen's Hall (U7) to obtain a guest parking pass.

Lots marked F/S are reserved for faculty and staff parking and are not available to visitors.

Getting to Campus

The Gloucester Point campus is accessed via US Route 17, just south of the Coleman Bridge crossing the York River. The main campus roads are Roper Drive, Spencer Road, Greate Road (Route 1208), and Lafayette Heights Road.

Public Areas Along the Waterfront

The campus shoreline includes several areas open to the public:

  • Gloucester Point Public Beach
  • Public Fishing Pier
  • Picnic Area
  • Public Landings (two locations along the waterfront)

The Fort Area is also accessible to visitors.

Building Accessibility

Buildings on campus fall into one of four accessibility categories:

Full accessibility
The building is accessible throughout.
First-floor accessibility
The first floor of the building is accessible; upper floors may not be.
Partial accessibility
Some areas of the building are accessible; others are not.
No accessibility designation
The building does not have designated accessibility features.

Comfort Rooms

Comfort rooms are private spaces available for personal use, including breaks, prayer, meditation, and nursing. Each comfort room offers window shades for privacy, a lockable door, and an identification sign on the door.

Comfort rooms are currently available at:

  • Chesapeake Bay Hall (U5) — Rooms 136, 137, 313, 337, and 338
  • Clayton House (U8) — Two comfort rooms on the first floor

Emergency Blue Light Phones

Emergency Blue Light Phones provide a direct line to campus security and are located throughout campus, including:

  • The Boat Basin pier area
  • Near the Dive Locker (B8) in the lower Boat Basin
  • Outside Andrews Hall (U2)
  • Between Andrews Hall and the Acuff Center (U24)
  • The faculty/staff parking area along US Route 17, north of Chesapeake Bay Hall (U5)
  • Adjacent to Chesapeake Bay Hall (U5)
  • Adjacent to Watermen's Hall (U7), near visitor parking
  • Between the Research Storage Building (U18) and Facilities Management (U19)
  • Adjacent to Nunnally Hall (U21)
  • Near the Clayton Lot (P2)
  • Between CBNERR-WQ (U11) and the River House Annex (U28)

Boat Basin

The Boat Basin sits along the York River shoreline, below Coleman Bridge. It houses Batten School & VIMS marine operations, vessel support, and some of its aquaculture research facilities.

Upper Campus

Upper Campus contains the academic, administrative, and primary research buildings of VIMS.
