VIMS

Advisory Service

In addition to being part of William & Mary, VIMS is also a semi-independent state agency charged with fulfilling the role of science advisor to the Commonwealth on matters related to marine and coastal science. This work is coordinated by the VIMS Office of Research & Advisory Services (ORAS), which is led by the Associate Dean for Research & Advisory Services (ADRAS).

ORAS is the central administrative office charged with coordinating VIMS' state-mandated research and outreach activities.  (VA Code  § 28.2-1100)

Most VIMS faculty have substantive involvement in all three parts of VIMS’ mission: Research, Education and Advisory Service.  Learn more about our advisory service activities (intranet).

When the Virginia General Assembly is in session, bills and resolutions that may be of interest to those at VIMS are tracked on the General Assembly page (intranet).
