Coastal & Polar Physical Oceanography

Lab Director: Donglai Gong

Researchers in the Coastal & Polar Physical Oceanography Laboratory (C2PO) at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) employ a range of sampling platforms—AUV/gliders, floats/drifters, satellites, HF-Radar, moorings, and ships—to better understand the physical processes that drive transport and mixing in coastal oceans and estuaries at mid- and high latitudes. These processes can affect the transfer and storage of heat, freshwater, nutrients, organic material, and pollutants in the coastal marine environment.

Description of research expeditions and projects such as Gliderpalooza briefly described and linked to from here.
