SHELLFISH HATCHERY AND NURSERY TECHNICIAN

JC Walker Brothers Inc. is a family-owned vertically integrated 128-year-old seafood business in Willis Wharf, Virginia.

DESCRIPTION: Assist in the operation of a large high production shellfish hatchery and nursery. Works in all aspects of a classic static culture hatchery and high volume nursery systems: spawning, larvae rearing, feeding, algae culture, cleaning, maintenance, repair and general quality control of equipment. This is a physically engaging position including climbing ladders, going in/out of large tanks, lifting heavy buckets (up to ~50lbs) or equipment, working on concrete floors etc.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Great work ethic and communication skills required
Prior hatchery experience preferred but not necessary.
Time management and problem solving skills
Required to work weekends
Knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems a plus
Mechanical ability and carpentry skills a plus
Able to work in a challenging environment and/or adverse weather

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Will be commensurate with experience. Position will be filled when suitable applicant is found.
