Administrative Support

The Outstanding Staff awards are chosen by nominations received by the Awards Committee from all faculty, staff, and students at VIMS. They are awarded in the categories of Facilities/Safety/Trades, Technical Support, and Administrative Support.

Ms. Sue SteinNewsletters, reports, posters, business cards, logos, the acoustical panels behind us right now—VIMS’ appearance to the world depends on graphic design and printing. VIMS is very fortunate to have a person like Sue Stein providing those services.

Sue is hardworking, detail-oriented, and extremely conscientious. Sue Stein (R) with VIMS Dean & Director John Wells following the VIMS Awards Ceremony. © C. Katella/VIMS.She rarely if ever misses a deadline, and has been utterly adaptable during her 27 years at VIMS, moving from dark-room photography and “Letraset” sheets to today’s mostly digital world. But she still wields a wicked Xacto knife!

As Publications Center manager, Sue not only serves her customers, but also handles all procurement and maintenance contracts for News & Media Services.  She is remarkably able to maintain her composure when dealing with stressed people—“I need to re-print my poster before my 2:30 flight!!”—recognizing that although she may be working to finish 13 different print jobs by “tomorrow,” each client is most concerned with only one job—a product they have sweated over during months of research and analysis. Her secret is to treat each job as if it were her own, paying careful attention to every detail to guarantee the highest quality.

For these and many other reasons, Sue is truly an asset to the Institute and highly deserving of the Outstanding Staff Award for Administrative Support.
