Committee Function
The Student Research Grant Committee (SRGC) is a standing committee of the Academic Council (AC). The charge from the AC to the SRGC is as follows:
The SRGC shall annually conduct a competitive review of proposals for research submitted by graduate students enrolled in the School of Marine Science.
The SRGC has the authority to award grants up to the total amount made available in the Student Research Grant Fund each year.
Committee Composition
The SRGC shall consist of 4 VIMS faculty members (one representative from each department) and a student representative. Representatives shall be elected by their departments with terms to last at least 2 years.
Quorum Defined
A quorum consists of all 4 members.
Committee Chair
The SRGC shall elect its chair from among its members annually after the seating of new members. The duties of the SRGC chair include arranging and presiding over SRGC meetings and communicating activities of the SRGC to the AC and the student body.
Schedule
The SRGC shall meet each fall semester as required to review student proposals and award student research funds.
