Oyster Gardening Seminar Series

VIMS / Virginia Sea Grant and the Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association present:
A (virtual) happy hour seminar series February 8, 15 and 22 from 5:30 – 6: 30 pm via Zoom.

Join us to hear from VIMS faculty and graduate student pairs providing brief presentations and engaging participants in discussion on a selection of hot topics in oyster aquaculture research.  Whether you are a seasoned Master Oyster Gardener (MOG), a newbie, or an oyster enthusiast, this series is sure to broaden your oyster horizons.

Schedule:
  • February 8: Emily Rivest and Annie Schatz discuss their work engaging citizens in water quality monitoring and how their research helps oyster stakeholders.
  • February 15: Marjy Friedrichs and Fei Da introduce you to forecasting water quality in the Bay and how these tools are being applied to determine the vulnerability of oyster aquaculture and restoration to environmental stressors.
  • February 22: Ryan Carnegie and Elizabeth Weatherup discuss new investigations into Dermo disease - could genetic variability of Dermo disease be an important consideration for regional biosecurity of shellfish seed.
