VIMS Park Programs

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science offers several summer programs at local parks to give the whole family a chance to get outside and learn more about popular topics like sharks, jellyfish, and more! All programs are free (excluding park entrance fees). Reservations are required.

Participants examine specimens from the VIMS Fish Collection during the Native American Fishing Techniques program offered by VIMS at York River State Park.
Summer 2015 Schedule
Sharks in the Parks
“Sharks in the Parks” is an interactive program wherein participants learn about different kinds of sharks, their senses, myths surrounding them, and their biology. Participants also get a glimpse into the past through hand-on activities with fossilized shark teeth.

Jellyfish!
VIMS’ newest park program focuses on the mysterious jellyfish. Participants will learn about the different jellyfish that inhabit Chesapeake Bay and their remarkable life and biology.
