Responsibilities

The Institutional Accountant & Financial Analyst reports to the Executive Budget Administrator in the Office of Finance at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.  Ms. Pitsillides’ primary responsibility is to perform various accounting functions in support of Sponsored Programs, Educational & General, and Private fund activities to ensure the integrity of the Banner Financial Accounting System.  Primary responsibilities include the processing of transactions for grant and contract administration, data control and process management of Institutional HR distributions and adjustments; time and effort certifications compliance, and management of Institutional external billings and accounts receivable.  In addition, she serves as alternate for the VIMS Foundation Accountant.

Experience

Suzanne Pitsillides has been with the College of William & Mary and Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) since June 2003 when she was hired as a Data Control Accountant.  In October 2008, she transferred to the VIMS Office of Sponsored Research as a Sponsored Program Administrator.  Recently, she has been moved to Office of Finance, in her current position, described above.  Prior to working at VIMS, she spent 13 years at Christopher Newport University (CNU) where she was hired in 1990 as a part time Cashier.  She worked her way through the Business Office performing tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, check processing and was responsible for the balancing of expenditures and revenues with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s accounting system (CARS).  Her entire state service has been in Higher Education.

Personal

Ms. Pitsillides enjoys outdoors, including time at the beach, traveling (mostly to beaches), fishing and camping.  Indoors, she enjoys shooting pool and watching sports (NASCAR & Football).  She has been married to her high school sweetheart, James (Teddy) Pitsillides, Jr, for almost 25 years.  She and her husband have totally restored their house located in Phoebus. Built in 1918, it was previously owned by Teddy’s grandfather.  The only children are their two dogs, Little E and Chesney.
