The Crustacean Society Board of Governors is extremely pleased to announce the recipients of the first annual Fellowships in Graduate Studies. Applications received by February 15, 2005 were reviewed by the Awards Committee and the following students were selected to receive a $1000 award to further their research:
Ms. Jennifer Head (Oregon Institute of Marine Biology; advisor N. Terwilliger) received the fellowship in physiology/population genetics for her investigation into physiological responses to environmental stress by the cancrid crab, Cancer magister.
Ms. Paula Rodgers (University of Maryland, College Park; advisors T. Hines and M. L. Reaka-Kudla) received the fellowship in systematics/biogeography/evolution for her investigation into stomatopod systematics and species diversity on coral reefs.
Mr. J. Antonio Baeza (University of Louisiana at Lafayette; advisor R. Bauer) received the fellowship in behavior/ecology for his investigation into the evolution of the sexual system of a protandric simultaneous hermaphrodite, Lysmata wurdemanni.

The Crustacean Society Board of Governors is also very pleased to announce the first recipient of the Denton Belk Memorial Scholarship in Graduate Studies with an emphasis on large branchiopod research. The Awards Committee reviewed all applications received by February 15, 2005 and they selected Mr. William Nelson (California State University, Fresno; advisor B. Tsukimura) to receive the $1500 award to further his research in methyl farnesoate metabolism in the tadpole shrimp Triops longicaudatus.
