Annual Business Meeting of the Carcinological Society of Japan, 12 November 2005

I would like to report about the last business meeting of the Carcinological Society of Japan (CSJ) at Nara Women's University on 12 Nov.

1. The election was done in October for the board of the Council of CSJ during the period 2006-2008, and the following persons were elected; Michio Imafuku, Seiji Goshima, Kooichi Konishi, Shigemitsu Shokita, Ken'ichi Hayashi, Takao Yamaguchi, Keiji Wada, Seiichi Watanabe, Akira Asakura.

2. The president of CSJ during the period 2006-2008 was determined: Prof. Keiji Baba (Emeritus Professor, Kumamoto University).

3. The board of the Council decided that CSJ will host The Crustacean Society Summer Meeting at the Tokyo University of Marine Science Technology (Shinagawa, Tokyo) in 2009 and a pre-organizing committee is now established. Members of the POC are Michio Imafuku, Keiji Wada, Kooichi Konishi, and Akira Asakura. This committee will make plans to organize and host the TCS Summer Meeting. A formal organizing committee will be established next year with more members. In my personal views, the Tokyo University of Marine Science Technology is the best place for hosting the TCS Summer Meeting. There is a direct express train from the Tokyo International Airport; "Narita Express" or "N'EX". N'EX takes only one hour to Shinagawa. http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/nex/ The university is within a walking distance from Shinagawa Station (ca. 10 min.). So, access to the university is very easy from outside of Japan. There are many hotels (as well as many restaurants) in Tokyo from economy to luxury, including several hotels within walking distance in Shinagawa (ca. US$60 - 200). However, summer (June to August) in Tokyo is extremely hot and humid, very uncomfortable because of the "heat island effect", as you know Tokyo is an extremely big city. So, May, September, or October will be better.

4. Like the Coquimbo (Chile) meeting, CSJ will welcome contributions from the entire range of crustacean research as well as organization of special symposia covering specific topics. If you are interested in organizing a symposium in Tokyo, please let me know. CSJ would like to know potential interests.

5. NEWS: CSJ will soon publish "William Stimpson's Journal from the North Pacific Exploring Expedition, 1853 - 1856" by Ronald S. Vasile, Raymond B. Manning, and Rafael Lemaitre, as the Crustacean Research Special Number 5. This volume is for sale for US$ 300. The order (name, postal address, number) should be sent by e-mail to the managing editor, Prof. Keiji Baba <keiji5962@ybb.ne.jp>. Credit Cards are accepted, but check first.

"Crustacean Research" and "Crustacean Research Special Number" are official journals of CSJ.

6. NEWS: Next year CSJ will publish "Biology of Anomura II" as the Crustacean Research Special Number 6, which is the proceedings of the symposium of the same title, organized by Rafael Lemaitre and Christopher Tudge, at 6th International Crustacean Congress, Glasgow, Scotland.

Respectfully submitted,
