Welcome to the VIMS Wetlands Program's Tidal Wetlands Impacts Data Home Page. Here you will find information on tidal wetlands management in Virginia, and the results of that management on the state's tidal wetland resource. This site is the result of a cooperative effort between the Wetlands Program and the Region III office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and was designed to assist resource managers, academicians, students, politicians and the general public in the areas of research, education, environmental management and policy, and general curiosities about human impacts on tidal wetlands in Virginia.

We ask that you read An overview of the VIMS Wetlands Program and data collection methods prior to viewing the data. The information contained there will help you more fully understand the summary data. We also ask that you return to this site periodically to take advantage of data updates and added information.
Design a query of the data for 1993-2004: At this location you will be able to design your own data request by year, activity category and watershed. Results are presented in tabular form and display impacts to vegetated and nonvegetated wetlands by square footage. Photographs of the chosen activity category are also displayed along with the summary data.
Design a query of the data for 1988-1992: At this location you will be able to design your own data request by year, wetland community type, and by either watershed or locality. Results are presented in tabular form and display impacts to specific wetland community types by square footage. Photographs of the chosen wetland community type are also displayed along with the summary data.
Nontidal wetlands impacts information: This location includes a summary document of impacts to Virginia nontidal wetlands for 1991-1993 (in part). These data are displayed in graphic and tabular form and present yearly square foot impacts by Cowardin classification, physiographic province and locality. Other related information is also included such as relative levels of impact categories and permit reviews by locality.
General Data Summaries: This location displays summary tables and graphs of tidal wetlands impacts data in a non-interactive format. You may choose to view yearly data summaries which include square foot impacts by locality or watershed, or the linear amount of shoreline altered by locality in tabular format, or graphs of shoreline alterations by watershed and wetland impacts by watershed.
