Virginia’s locally owned tidal beaches and state parks provide access to Chesapeake Bay, its tributaries, and the Atlantic Ocean. The map below may not show every public beach site, but it does show several sites where swimming or wading is permitted. Federally owned properties—military bases in particular—are not shown. Some local and state properties that are on the water are also not shown because they do not necessarily allow swimming or wading.
