Managed Natural Resources and Climate Change: The Challenge Ahead.

By: Roger Mann

This presentation is an update of the original as given at a Pew Foundation sponsored national forum on Climate Change and Energy. The presentation reviews the challenges to scientists in taking the results of climate change research at the national and regional level, developing forecasts of impact on managed natural resources (with examples from Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay and the Mid Atlantic Bight), and translating these forecasts into actions addressing adaptation, mitigation and vulnerability.  The presentation underscores the need for scientists to develop skills outside of traditional academia, to communicate the magnitude and urgency of the problem at hand, and to engage the wider community in developing responsible future planning and policy.
