sturgeon headYou will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements to either of the airports or train stations (see below) that are close to the VIMS main campus in Gloucester Point, VA. Due to the organization of the trip to/from the ESL, please plan to arrive on June 2nd and plan your departure on or after June 22nd. We will arrange pick up service from the airport or train station on June 2nd, and then from the VIMS campus to the ESL on June 3rd. If you are planning to arrive with your own car please time your travel so that you                                                                                                                         arrive at the ESL in Wachapreague on June 3rd. Directions to VIMS main campus

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) is located in Gloucester Point, Virginia, immediately across from Yorktown, Virginia via the George P. Coleman Bridge.

VIMS lies approximately 13 miles southeast of the College of William & Mary main campus in Williamsburg. There is no public transportation between the two campuses.

  • AMTRAK makes stops in both Williamsburg and Newport News, VA.

Bus Service:

  • Greyhound makes stops in Williamsburg and Hampton, VA, as well as its main terminal stops in Richmond and Norfolk, VA.
  • Trailways makes stops in Richmond and Norfolk, VA

 

 

Driving times and directions to ESL

 ESL Campus

The Eastern Shore Laboratory (ESL) is located in Wachapreague, Virginia, on the ocean side of the Delmarva peninsula. The lab is approximately a 2.5-hour drive from the main VIMS campus in Gloucester Point (see  for directions). There is no public transportation between the two campuses.

Time from VIMS - 2 to 2.5 hours 

Time from Washington, D.C. - 4 to 4.5 hours
