Design the artwork for Marine Science Day 2012 at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science! This year's theme is FLOUNDER, and a flounder must be included in the artwork.
Entry Deadline: March 1st, 2012; 2 pm.
Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place winners will be chosen from each of the following categories:
- Children: K - 8th Grade
- Adults: 9th Grade and up, including adults
Each 1st-place winner will receive a framed copy (or original) of their entry.
Grand Prize: One 1st-place winner will also be awarded the Grand Prize.
The Grand Prize winner’s artwork will be used in advertisements and featured on the 2012 VIMS Marine Science Day T-shirt.
Contest Rules
- The winning artwork will be chosen by the VIMS Communications Office. The decision is final.
- All entries must include a flounder. Images including science are welcome, but not required. Scroll through the photoset above for previous MSD logos.
- The winning artwork may be altered by VIMS.
- The winner will be notified by March 9, 2012, and recognized during Marine Science Day on May 19, 2012.
- There is no entry fee.
- All artwork must be original. No clip art.
- Entries—We prefer artwork created on a computer, as a digital file, in full color. Save images as .jpg and .tif files. Create the image in high-resolution and save as a 300 dpi (minimum) image, at least 5" x 7." Hand-drawn artwork, 5" x 7" or larger, will be accepted, but must have thick lines—especially as the outline of the design—and high contrasting areas.
- VIMS cannot accept liability for damage or loss of any artwork, for any cause while in their possession.
- VIMS will display selected entries at Marine Science Day, and designate "Honorable Mentions."
- The artwork chosen for 2012 Marine Science Day becomes the property of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. The artwork may be altered prior to use.
- Digital entries can be emailed to [[sstein]] or mailed on CD or Flash Drive to the VIMS Communications Center, MSD Artwork Contest, PO Box 1346, Gloucester Point, VA, 23062. Hand-drawn entries should be mailed to this same address. Items can also be hand delivered to VIMS' reception desk in the Watermen's Hall lobby. Entries will not be returned.
- Include name, daytime phone, email, and mailing address. If child, include name of parent or guardian.
