Heidi Wadman received her BS in Geology at the College of William and Mary, studying the structure and metamorphic petrology of basement rocks in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. After working for a couple of years mapping the Virginia coastal plain and producing digital geologic maps for the VA Division of Mines, Minerals and Energy, she began her masters at VIMS. Under the tutelage of Steve Kuehl and Carl Friedrichs, Heidi’s thesis involved mapping the migration of shallow depositional centers associated with turbidity maxima in energetic estuarine systems via regular water column surveys and by measuring sediment properties such as porosity, grainsize and 7Be. Heidi began her PhD work in the summer of 2004 under the advisement of Jesse. Her research focuses on understanding the sediment dynamics of the inner shelf of the Waiapu River, New Zealand. Currently, she is studying the role the inner shelf plays in trapping fine sediment, including examining the effect that underlying geology on the inner shelf has on shelf-wide sediment transport. Future work will potentially include looking at strata formation on the inner shelf both before and after the onset of anthropogenic influences due to extensive deforestation. |
