Jen Miselis received a B.S. in Marine Science and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) in 2001. She started as a doctoral student at VIMS in August of the same year. Her research focuses on how the geology and morphology of the nearshore affect shoreline behavior. One part of Jen’s dissertation links geology-defined sediment volume to decadal shoreline change. She is also studying how the morphology and lithology of the nearshore respond to storms and in turn how they determine beach response. Jen is using vibracores from the nearshore of North Carolina to investigate the variability of the Quaternary geology underlying the nearshore to better understand sea level fluctuations and sedimentation over the last 10000 years. She plans to graduate in May 2007 and wants to continue to examine the role of geology in coastal evolution.
