The Chief Financial & Administrative Officer is a senior-level professional position that reports directly to the Dean and Director of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.  Ms. Latour serves as the primary assistant and chief advisor to the Dean and Director regarding administrative and financial processes, as well as assists the Dean and Director in managing, on both a delegated and directed basis, all functions necessary for the operation of the Institution. 

Key accomplishments include serving as an elected official on the 21-member William & Mary Professional and Professional Faculty Assembly; interim President of the VIMS Professional and Professional Faculty Council, member of the W&M/VIMS committee to restructure the classification and compensation system for employees; integral participant in the implementation of a new financial and human resource system, and chair of, or committee member for, new recruitment hires in various fields of higher education.

Education & Experience

Jennifer B. Latour has been with the College of William & Mary and Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in higher education administrative positions since 1995.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Latour was the Assistant to the Dean/Director of Budget and Personnel (2006-2009) for the School of Education at William & Mary.  She also served as the Senior Budget Analyst at her alma mater, Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia from 1999-2000.  Ms. Latour graduated from CNU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1995 and earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Averett College in 2000.

Community Service

Ms. Latour volunteers with Gloucester County’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism group.  She has served as either coach or referee for youth soccer and field hockey games, and assisted in the annual Halloween Haunted Trail hosted by Parks and Recreation.  Ms. Latour received the Volunteer of the Year award from that group in 2007.  In addition to her volunteer service, she taught aerobics for Virginia’s CommonHealth Association intermittently from 1998-2002.


Jennifer’s husband, Robert Latour, is a faculty member at VIMS.  He is a Professor specializing in quantitative fisheries ecology and population dynamics.  The Latours have two children, Caroline and Connor, a cat and dog, and reside in Gloucester County, Virginia.
