Basin restoration overview: The
Lynnhaven River system is minor tributary on the southern
shore of the Chesapeake Bay. It was chosen as an oyster restoration
zone because it has supported oyster populations in recent years and had a history of regular spat settlement and significant private oyster production before Haplosporidium nelsoni (MSX) became established.
Three dimensional reefs were constructed in the system in
1997, 2001, 2002, and 2003.
