Lynnhaven River: Pre-deployment basin survey
For survey purposes, the Lynnhaven River basin has been divided into five functional regions that are delineated in color on the map above. These include: Broad Bay (green), Long Creek (blue), Eastern Branch (yellow), Western Branch (purple) and Hume's Marsh complex (red).
Within regions, features are categorized as:
Summary
Digital video transects have been used to estimate percent oyster cover for 5 regions in the Lynnhaven estuary. Intertidal shoreline and intertidal patch and fringing shell reef habitats have been assigned to one of 5 habitat categories (bulkhead, marsh, riprap, sand, other). Within these categories, oyster densities have been characterized into 7 categories on the basis of percent coverage (0%, 1-5%, 6-25%, 26-50%, 51-75%, 76-95%, 96-100%). The term "feature" delineates the number of places within a category that were mapped.
