  1. On a PC, click the Tools menu, then click Filters. On a Mac, click Window, then Filters.

  2. Within the Filters' Screen (on the bottom left side), click New (the word 'Untitled' will appear in the list on the left of the filters' screen).

  3. On the right side of the Filters' screen, there should be a check by Incoming.

  4. Click on the pull-down arrow for Header and select Subject:.

  5. Click on the next pull-down arrow that allows you to choose options (it may have the word 'Contains' in this box) and choose Starts With:.

  6. Click on the box located to the right of the Starts With options box and type in *SPAM?*.

  7. On the Filters' screen, under Action, choose which action you would like to do. ITNS recommends one of the following choices:
    • Option 1: Transfer it to a folder titled *SPAM?* so that you can review what is flagged as spam and decide whether you want to read it or delete it yourself.
    • Option 2: Transfer it to a folder titled Trash so any messages coming in with *SPAM?* in the subject line will automatically be sent to the trash folder. Messages will still appear in your trash folder until you permanently delete them, so that you can have the opportunity to review the messages prior to permanently deleting them.

  8. Follow the steps below for the option that you chose:
    • Under Action, click on the pull-down arrow and select transfer to, then click the box immediately to the right (it may have the word "in" selected), then select New and within the New Mailbox Screen...
      1. For Option 1: type in *SPAM?*, then click OK.
      2. For Option 2: select trash.
    • Click 'X' to close the Filters' screen (located in the top right-hand corner of this screen)
    • When prompted to Save Changes to Filters?, click yes.
