Security Hours

The Institute provides un-armed security coverage from 4:00 pm to 7:00 am weekdays and 24-hour coverage on weekends, holidays, and other non-routine closings. Buildings are normally locked between 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm by the guard on duty during the weekdays. Buildings are unlocked by the guard on duty starting at 6:00 am on weekdays.

Contact Security

Security may be reached by dialing the campus extension at 7300. This extension is monitored 24 hours, 7 days a week. After hours, officers can also be reached at 804-694-7300. Assistance will be provided for services such as walking you to your car, (un)locking buildings and rooms for special events, and investigating incidents (theft, property damage, etc.). Requests for assistance from the Security Office may be made in advance by e-mail to [[v|security]].

Emergencies

In case of emergency, call 911 and the Gloucester County emergency services will respond. You may also use one of the "Blue Light" phones located around the campus for emergencies.

Should there be an emergency during the normal working day, contact Facilities Management or the Office of Safety and Environmental Programs. The best way to do so is by calling the central receptionist at extension 7300 and requesting that the appropriate office or individual be contacted.

Crime Statistics

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and the Campus Crime Statistics Act (formerly the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990) requires that crime statistics for the Gloucester Point campus (On-Campus), Wachapreague campus (Non-Campus), and the area immediately adjacent to the Gloucester Point Campus (Public Property) be provided to all faculty, staff, and students for the previous 3 calendar years.

The VIMS Crime Statistics are included in the crime statistics for the William & Mary campus. In addition, the College booklet  Stay Safe at the College of William & Mary contains helpful information on living, traveling, bicycling, and partying safely. Also included in the booklet are helpful phone numbers for various campus support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Substance Abuse Education, and Sexual Assault Support.

Additional information on security coverage at VIMS is included in the VIMS'  Policy and Procedure Documents; section PPD-0406, Institute Security.
