GLOUCESTER COUNTY

What can be recycled?

  • Plastic containers labeled #1 and #2
  • Paper products, junk mail, magazines, newspapers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans, scrap metal
  • Yard waste, corrugated cardboard
  • Used oil, tires

What is household hazardous waste?
Cleaning solvents, aerosol cans, fluorescent bulbs (including CFLs), mercury thermometers, smoke alarms, furniture polish, chlorine bleach, drain cleaner, lighter fluid, kerosene, brake fluid, antifreeze, batteries, oil-based paint, paint thinner, pesticides, ammunition, epoxies, propane tanks.

Household hazardous waste
can be recycled on the 3rd Saturday of April at the Middle Peninsula Landfill and Recycling Center, and the 3rd Saturday of October at the Guinea Road Convenience Center.

Where can I bring my recycling?
Convenience centers are open Mon-Fri 8am-7pm and Sat 7am-7pm

What is household hazardous waste?
Cleaning solvents, chlorine bleach, drain cleaner, fluorescent bulbs (including CFLs), furniture polish, aerosol cans, oil-based paint, paint thinner, pesticides, epoxies, mercury thermometers, batteries, lighter fluid, kerosene, brake fluid.
Household hazardous waste and electronics can be recycled at the Gildersleeve Middle School, 1 Minton Dr on a quarterly basis, March-Nov.  Curbside recycling is available on a weekly basis with a fee, per request in select areas.

WILLIAMSBURG AND JAMES CITY COUNTY

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans, scrap metal
  • Yard waste, corrugated cardboard
  • Motor oil, antifreeze (at convenience centers only)
What is household hazardous waste?
Cleaning solvents, chlorine bleach, drain cleaner, fluorescent bulbs (including CFLs), furniture polish, aerosol cans, oil-based paint, paint thinner, pesticides, epoxies, mercury thermometers, smoke alarms, batteries, lighter fluid, kerosene, brake fluid.
Household hazardous waste can be recycled on the 2nd Saturday of every month, Feb Oct from 9am-1pm at the Tewning Rd Convenience Center.

Where can I bring my recycling?
Convenience Centers are located at
  • Williamsburg – 107 Tewning Rd – Open Mon 8am-12pm, Tues-Sat 8am-5pm
  • Williamsburg – 1204 Jolly Pond Rd – Open Mon-Sun 7am-5pm
    • Also accepts propane tanks, tires, and metal appliances
  • Toano – 185 Industrial Blvd – Open Mon-Sun 8am-4pm
    • Also accepts metal appliances
Computers may be recycled on 2nd Saturday in June and October.
Curbside recycling is available free of charge on a weekly basis, per request at select areas.

Cleaning solvents, chlorine bleach, drain cleaner, , fluorescent bulbs (including CFLs), furniture polish, aerosol cans, oil-based paint, paint thinner, pesticides, epoxies, mercury thermometers, batteries, lighter fluid, kerosene, brake fluid.
Household hazardous waste can be recycled the 2nd Saturday of every month, Mar-Nov, 8am-12pm

Where can I bring my recycling?
The drop-off facility is at 145 Goodwin Neck Rd, open Mon-Sat 8am-4pm

Computers may be recycled on the 2nd Saturday in July and November
