Visitors' Brochure

This 18-page booklet (pdf) provides an overview of the Eastern Shore Laboratory's history, facilities, and services.

Animal Care and Use
Individuals wishing to use the ESL facilities for the maintenance of marine organisms should contact the VIMS-ESL Seawater Laboratoy Manager in advance to discuss their scheduling needs and develop a clear space and animal care plan. If your activities at ESL will involve the use of vertebrates, an approved IACUC protocol must be in place prior to the start of those activities at ESL.  Educational field trips in which ESL staff will be responsible for collecting vertebrates are covered under our protocol.  All other activities must have their own IACUC protocol in place prior to the start of any type of activity involving live vertebrate animals at ESL.  Additional information on animal care and use policies and the IACUC protocol approval process is available on the College of William and Mary’s Animal Subjects webpage.  IACUC training relevant to working with fishes is available on the VIMS IACUC Training for Working with Fishes webpage.  As soon as activities begin at ESL, an IACUC posting form must be displayed.
