WAVE Fellowship in Crustacean Research

The Willard A. Van Engel (WAVE) Fellowship was established to promote and attract individuals of outstanding ability to conduct research leading to an advanced degree in William and Mary's School of Marine Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). The Fellowship supports a graduate student at VIMS who is studying commercially important crustaceans, primarily the blue crab, in Chesapeake Bay.

Applications are accepted for one year of support, with an award period from July 1 through June 30.   For 2015-2016 the award amount is $25,000 to cover stipend and research expenses.

 To apply: The application format is limited to two (2) pages, single spaced and should describe the proposed line of study, including a study timeline, and a detailed budget.  Supplementary maps and/or figures are not included in the page limit but must not exceed an additional two pages.  Stipend and research expenses must be itemized in the budget.  A final report for the award period is expected within one month of the completion of the award period.  As with the initial request, the final report is limited to two pages, single spaced with up to two additional pages of maps and/or figures. Digital reporting is encouraged. 

 Successful applicants are requested to acknowledge the support of the Willard A. Van Engel Fellowship in publications and professional products developed during the period of support by the Fellowship.
