William Reay

Research Assistant Professor, VIMS, Department of Coastal and Ocean Policy
Director, NOAA Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia

Email: wreay@vims.edu
Phone: (804) 684-7119

Education:

Ph.D., 1992, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Biology.
M.S., 1989, College of William and Mary, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Marine Science.
B.S., 1983, George Mason University, Biology.

Research Interests:

My primary research interest is in the area of watershed hydrology and nutrient dynamics with an emphasis on the study of groundwater-surface water interactions. I am also involved in the development and implementation of shallow water monitoring programs and their integration into ocean and coastal observation systems.

Current Projects:

  • Chesapeake Bay Observing System Cooperative Expansion and Integration Demonstration
  • National Atmospheric Deposition Program and Mercury Deposition Network
  • Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia Federal Assistance Grant
  • Chesapeake Bay Program Nearshore Habitat Monitoring Program
  • Shallow Water Quality Monitoring Program for the Piankatank River
