Scott Lerberg

Stewardship Coordinator, NOAA Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia

Email: lerbergs@vims.edu
Phone: (804) 684-7129

Education:

M.S., 1997, University of Charleston, South Carolina, Marine Science.
B.S., 1992, Denison University, Ohio, Biology.

Research Interests:

In addition to my previous research experience which focused primarily on bottom-dwelling invertebrates in shallow water and tidal marsh ecosystems, I am interested in more applied research goals including:
  • the protection and conservation of essential estuarine and coastal habitats
  • the effect of anthropogenic activities on estuarine ecosystems
  • assessing habitat value by modeling energy flow through different trophic levels
  • using long-term datasets (physical or biological) as indicators of system change
  • using GIS and online applications as tools for more effective coastal resource management
Current Projects:

  • Developing GIS Capabilities for CBNERRVA
  • Quality Control and Submission of SWMP Meteorological Data
  • Land Stewardship and Acquisition Related to CBNERRVA Reserves
  • Watershed and Near-Shore Habitat Research within York River Subestuary
  • Using Remote Sensing to Assess Habitat Change on Selected CBNERRVA Sites
  • Integrated Ocean Observation Systems
