General Biology

EuroTurtle - An educational and research database for the conservation and biology of Mediterranean sea turtles. The website includes information on sea turtle biology, natural & manmade threats, conservation groups, an identification key and educational activities.

Sea Turtle Science - This packet includes background information, quick facts, links to additional sea turtle resources, and a classroom modeling activity that demonstrates population estimation, life history, and hatching success rates.

Vida de la Tortuga - Vida de la Tortuga (The Life of a Turtle) is an activity designed to teach elementary students about Pacific sea turtles. Students will learn about endangered species and how humans can threaten and help them. The activity includes web resources and contact information for sea turtle conservation organizations. Also available in Spanish.

Seaturtle.org - Containing a newsletter, image library, discussion forums, directory, sea turtle related job information, and other turtle resources, this site is a one-stop shop for sea turtle information. The highlight of the site is the turtle tracking section where you can follow turtles in near-real time all over the world. The site also contains map making tools and membership and donation information. A word of the day is also presented, complete with an archived glossary.

Sea Turtles - Sea World informational resource appropriate for grade 5 and up. Topics include physical characteristics, habitat & distribution, behavior, diet, reproduction & hatchlings, and conservation.

Caribbean Conservation Corp./Sea Turtle Survival League - Learn about sea turtles, adopt a sea turtle, participate in CCC's sea turtle research, do a sea turtle tracking activity with your classroom, and download the free teacher's guide called Sea Turtle Migration-Tracking & Coastal Habitat Educational Guide.

Green Sea Turtles - Detailed information on the biology, natural history, and factors influencing the population of green sea turtles with teaching activities.

The Biology and Plight of the Leatherback - One of several CHANCE modules, Biology and Plight of the Leatherback features six computer activities which discuss background of the leatherback, life cycle and distribution, nest building, the effect of nest temperature on gender variability, environmental factors that affect incubation, and causes of endangerment. Each activity includes several review questions. The site also includes teacher guidelines, PA standards information, and information on additional resources.
