Welcome to the Spotlight photo album for Kate Mansfield, sea turtle biologist. This album highlights the tagging and releasing of a female loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). The sea turtle had an old VIMS satellite tag on it and was brought back to VIMS by a concerned citizen. The turtle was adult sized, so local vets performed an ultrasound to see if she had eggs. Since she did indeed have eggs, she was a potential Virginia "nester" so permission was granted by the Army Corps of Engineers to put on a new satellite tag as part of the Satellite Tracking Project.
