Ice Shelves are permanent floating ice sheets that are attached to land and are constantly fed by glaciers. The largest one is the Ross Ice Shelf which is 600 - 3000 feet thick and about 600 miles long (the size of France). The cliffs at the waters edge are about 200 feet high.
