Seafood Education Seminars
The Virginia Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program's Seafood Education Seminars served up seafood science with culinary demonstrations since 1986. We are honored to have sponsored a program bringing together scientists and some of the best chefs in Virginia to share their seafood knowledge and expertise with so many interested citizens of the Commonwealth.
Now we are moving in a different direction in response to some exciting new opportunities for seafood education in Virginia. There is a huge interest in the culinary arts among young people, and we are currently focusing on developing a pilot program to address needs and interests of students and educators in high school and college culinary programs. In addition, we are redesigning the Seafood Education website to make it easier to use and to provide access to a variety of science-based consumer information on seafood issues, as well as continuing our links to seafood recipes and other culinary resources. The website will also include an archive of the best menus, with recipes and wine lists, from 18 years of seafood seminar programs!
While the traditional Seafood Education Seminars will no longer be offered on a regular basis, we are continuing to work with chefs and the scientific community to offer new seafood events at VIMS for the public as occasion permits. These programs will be announced here on the website.
Thanks to the many chefs, scientists and seafood lovers who participated in the Seafood Education Seminars over the past 18 years! We look forward to working with you in future seafood education programs.
