extended residence of drum (18.00-25.00” TL) at the “Hot Ditch” in July.
22 recapture events in 1999 continue to document movement of small red drum (15.00-18.00” TL) from Rudee Inlet
in Apr-May into the Chesapeake Bay in spring and summer. Significant examples include:
A red drum (17.50” TL) released at Rudee Inlet on 5/5/99 was recaptured at this site on 5/9/99 (4 DAL),
re-released with the tag in place, then recaptured at the Goodwin Islands on 8/4/99 (87 DAL).
A red drum (16.00” TL) released at Rudee Inlet on 4/15/99 was recaptured at Plumtree Flats on 6/1/99 (47
DAL).
67 recapture events for red drum released at Rudee Inlet (primarily in April) document extended residence at
this location by red drum (13.00-27.00” TL) in all seasons.
16 recapture events for red drum in 1999 continue to document directed, southerly movement of fish from
Virginia to North and South Carolina in fall. Significant examples include:
A red drum (11.50” TL) tagged in Fleet’s Bay on 8/26/99 was recaptured at a fishing pier in Kitty Hawk, NC
on 9/11/99 (16 DAL).
A red drum (20.00” TL) tagged at Rudee Inlet on 8/22/99 was reported recaptured by a commercial fisherman in
South Carolina on 10/29/99 (68 DAL).
A red drum (17.00” TL) tagged at Poquson Flats on 10/2/99 was recaptured at the research pier in Duck, NC on
10/16/99 (14 DAL).
