Secretary
Kathy Siegfried
Kathy works at the National Aquarium in Baltimore as the Youth Programs Coordinator in the Conservation Education Department. She has been an active member of the Mid-Atlantic Marine Education Association since 1997 and has served as the Maryland Representative for MAMEA from 2001-2006 and MAMEA Secretary from 2006-2007. Since her appointment to the MAMEA Board Kathy has additionally provided valuable leadership in MAMEA by serving as the Newsletter Committee Chair and on the NMEA 2003 Conference Committee. Having worked in three of the Mid-Atlantic States, Kathy brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the MAMEA board.

Maryland Representative
Christine Grant
Chris Grant is a middle school science teacher at Argyle Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland. She has primarily taught seventh grade but has on occasion taught one period of sixth or eighth grade in her twenty-one years of teaching. Chris is a member of the National Science Teacher’s Association, the Maryland Association of Science Teachers, the Maryland Association of Biology Teachers, and of course, MAMEA. She has attended the NSTA Conference every year to gain new ideas and strategies and to meet people from across the United States. She was also a Jason Project Teacher Trainer for six years and was an Implementation Teacher for the Montgomery County Middle School Upscale Grant for three years. Chris has served as the Science Fair Liaison to the Montgomery Area Science Fair for her school since 1997 and has served on the organizing committee for the Montgomery County Middle School Inquiry Conference since 2001. With a colleague, Chris has written differentiated lessons on Light and Sound and the Nervous System for Montgomery County. Chris and her students have been trying to help restore the Chesapeake Bay by growing wild celery grass in the classroom for the last nine years and raising horseshoe crabs for the last two years. After learning about the NOAA project at last fall’s MAMEA Conference last year, Chris became involved with the NOAA Waterways Project and hopes to involve her students with it this year. Organizing events is her forte, having organized the science fair and science and technology day at her school for many years. Chris has enjoyed the MAMEA conferences and sleepovers at the Baltimore Aquarium and would be honored to serve as the Maryland Representative for MAMEA.

North Carolina Representative
Allison Gleason
Allison is an Associate Museum Curator for the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort. She is responsible for school and group education programs in marine science and maritime history. Allison has led field studies in the Florida Keys and North Carolina, and her current program interests include sustainable seafood, night nature, and coastal photography. She also curates the live aquatic exhibits at the museum. She has a Bachelor’s degree in geology from Colgate University and a Master’s degree in environmental management from Duke University. Allison joined both MAMEA and NMEA in 2006 and enjoys the partnerships and idea sharing that occurs at the annual conferences. She has reviewed the State Representative responsibilities and is very willing and able to carry out all these duties while in office…as soon as she gets back from her honeymoon!

Ruth Schneider
Ruth Schneider has worked as an Educator at the NC Aquarium at Ft Fisher for the past five years. During that time she has been an active member of both NMEA and MAMEA. She has helped to host three NC Marine Educator/ Sleep with the Fishes workshops and has concentrated on expanding the NC Aquariums’ involvement in the organization. She hopes to continue her work as NC Representative by expanding the NC membership, collaborating with other MAMEA members on workshops, conferences and educator experiences and to continue to be a loud presence in the annual MAMEA auctions (no, that's Adam, I'm the other loud one).
