VIMS DEVELOPMENT OFFICEThe Development Office at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science is responsible for developing support from foundations, corporations, alumni, parents, and individuals for research, capital improvements and educational scholarships. The Development Office works with scientists, staff and graduate students to develop solicitations and proposals. Half of VIMS's total budget comes from the state with the balance funded from grants, contracts, and private contributions. Cutting-edge research and education programs require costly facilities, technology, and equipment, competitive salaries for faculty, and scholarships to attract the best students. As state funding declines--and as public and private grant awards become increasingly more competitive--VIMS must build a substantial base of private support to guarantee its place among the world's leading marine science centers. Please visit the VIMS Campaign website, "Charting Our Destiny". Contributions may take many forms: you may choose to make your gift to our Annual Fund effort--using a check or credit card; you may also choose to make a gift of securities to VIMS; you may want to consider a deferred gift, such as a will provision, gift of property or a trust. Also, when considering a gift please remember that over 1,000 corporations and businesses match their employee's charitable donations to colleges and universities. Many companies also match gifts for spouses and retirees. An on-line secure site for the VIMS Alumni Fund is available. Should you have any questions about how to make a gift to VIMS, please contact Anne A. Marshall, Director of Development at (804) 684-7107 or Ms. Lisa Phipps at (804) 684-7099. You may send correspondence to Dr. Marshall at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, P.O. Box 1346, Gloucester Point, VA 23062. Beyond monetary contributions, VIMS also encourages interested students and citizens to participate in our Search for Solutions through internships, volunteer programs, and our seminars and workshops.
