Responsibilities
The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.  Ms. MacDonald is the Worker's Compensation Representative, responsible for new worker briefing, claims submission and coordination of return to work.  She serves as administrative liaison for the FS&TR and Dean's Ad Hoc Committees.  She provides faculty training for Digital Measures and collaborates with faculty to request system changes to fit their reporting needs.  As volunteer coordinator, Ms. MacDonald interviews and places volunteers and ensures that orientation and appropriate training takes place.  She completes research and draft preparation for documentation as required for new policies and procedures.  Ms. MacDonald also assists in creation of designated new positions and classification/compensation review of existing positions in PeopleAdmin.
Education and Experience
Libby began working at VIMS as a laboratory specialist for Dr. Rebecca Dickhut in 1989.  She continued in that capacity full-time until 1996 and returned intermittently to process samples associated with various projects through 2012.  She has also worked as greenhouse manager for the W&M Biology Department and as a bookkeeper for a remodelor and a Newport News law firm.  She received a BS in Agronomy and an MS in Crop Science from N.C. State University.
Personal
Libby enjoys serving as a Science Fair judge each year, most often at Heritage High School in Newport News.  She has 2 adult daughters.  Her husband Rick Lugent, Jr. owns Rick & Libby's restaurant in Newport News and they have a dog and five cats.
