Leadership and Administration

Dr. John T. Wells serves as the Dean of the School of Marine Science of The College of William & Mary.  He also serves as the  Director of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

As Dean and Director,  Dr. Wells has administrative responsibilities at VIMS to provide the vision, strategic planning and overall leadership for the Institute to be a center of excellence in marine research, education and advisory service.  He oversees the Office of Academic Studies, the Director of Research and Advisory Services, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Director of Operations, Support Services and Special Projects.

VIMS has approximately 450 faculty, staff and students, and with an annual operating budget of $40 million is currently among the largest marine research and education centers in the United States.
