Responsibilities

The Program Services Coordinator for the Office of Finance is an operational position under the broad supervision of the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.  Under the direct supervision of the Senior Financial & Administrative Officer, Ms. Woodard’s primary responsibilities are to provide financial and administrative support for the Office of Finance.  This includes various monthly reconciliations, management and maintenance of institutional support budgets and a multitude of other financial projects as assigned.  Ms. Woodard is also the first point of contact for the Office of Finance which encompasses routing of Human Resource forms and a resource for other Institutional departments and visitors seeking information.

Education & Experience

Valerie Woodard has been with the College of William & Mary and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in higher education administrative positions since 2006.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Woodard served as the administrative assistant to the Vice President of Finance and Administration/Comptroller (1999-2006) for Christopher Newport University.  Ms. Woodard has over 15 years of service in higher education and has earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Averett University in 2010.

Community Service

Ms. Woodard exhibits her community service through her participation as a volunteer for many of the activities of Armstrong Fundamental School for the Arts and Sciences.  She has served on several committees and became actively involved in the technical interests of their students.

Family

Ms. Woodard has been married for 33 years to her husband, Stanley.  They have two daughters, three grandsons, and reside in Hampton, Virginia.
