Responsibilities

The Sponsored Programs Administrator is a position that reports to the Director of Sponsored Programs.  Ms. Credle’s primary responsibility is protecting the interests of the institution by working with researchers, business officers, and administrators; and serving as the point of contact and liaison with federal, state, and private funding agencies and their representatives for grants and contracts.  She performs both pre-award and post-award functions by assisting researchers with their preparation and submission of research proposals, reviewing contract and awards packages, monitoring/approving all expenditures, preparing journal entries, invoicing, drawing down federal funds, etc.  Ms. Credle is also responsible for requesting and submitting A-133 audit certifications, and updating and maintaining the Office of Sponsored Programs web page.


Education & Experience

Alexandra Credle has been with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in the Office of Sponsored Programs since January 2010.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Credle was a Research Administrator for Pre-award in the Office of Grants and Research Administration at the College of William & Mary.  Ms. Credle has attended several workshops and conferences to help further her knowledge of research administration. These include the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) Fundamentals of Sponsored Project Administration Workshop (2009), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Financial Assistance Workshop (2010), National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) Sponsored Project Administration Level II (2011), and the Society of Research Administrators (SRA) VA Chapter Meeting (2012).

Ms. Credle graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Business in 2009.  She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Maryland University College and anticipates completion in fall 2013.
