Coasts at the Millenium
The Coastal Society 17th International Conference
July 9-12, 2000, Portland, Oregon
About The Coastal Society
The Coastal Society was chartered in 1975 to serve as a forum for coastal
resource professionals and other individuals interested in coastal issues
to come together to promote the better understanding and sustainable use
of our coastal resources. The Coastal Society believes that conservation
and wise use of coastal resources should rank among each nation's highest
priorities. The TCS membership is multidisciplinary. Members represent
a broad range of disciplines including (but not limited to), marine science,
fisheries, engineering, law, economics, business, sociology, management,
and education. Members are affiliated with Business, resource management
agencies, NGOs, colleges, universities, marine advisory groups, advocacy
groups and coastal enthusiasts. The main goals of the Society are to:
-
foster cooperation and communications among government agencies, coastal
resource users, coastal professionals, coastal scientists, coastal educators,
citizens and related groups;
-
promote conservation and wise use of coastal resources;
-
advance public education and appreciation of coastal resources;
-
help government, industry, and individuals balance development and protection
along the world's coastline.
To help accomplish its goals, The Coastal Society publishes a quarterly
TCS
BULLETIN dealing with a broad range of coastal issues and convenes
a biennial conference to focus on a coastal issue or group of issues of
importance.
