Grey Literature
What is Grey literature? This term refers to papers, reports, technical notes or other documents produced and published by governmental agencies, academic institutions and other groups that are not distributed or indexed by commercial publishers. Many of these documents are difficult to locate and obtain.
Scientific reports on the Chesapeake, listed in the Bibliography of Chesapeake Bay Grey Literature, were gathered in a collaborative project between the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Carter Library, Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). Grant funded by the MDNR, more than 94,000 pages of documents published by these two agencies, and the Chesapeake Research Consortium were scanned and made available in fulltext for the research community. A second phase of the project enabled the inclusion of citations to publications on the science of the Chesapeake from the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory and the Cheasapeake Bay Institute. These fulltext reports and citations are collectively called the Bibliography of Chesapeake Bay Grey Literature. With the exception of the VIMS publications, these lists are not updated.
